Weimaraner - Lab Puppies

Named 'Wolf'

June 2004. Wolf is a six month old half Labrador and half Weimaraner pup. Wolf is now (6/2004) seventy lbs. and will grow to about eighty to ninety lbs. His parents are both over eighty five lbs. Wolf is the largest of a litter of six puppies. Three were black and three were grey. Wolf has small white patches on his feet and a white blaze on his chest as does his father. His coat has the possibility of becoming very short, sleek and shiny in the summer and was very thick in the Winter. Wolf is still shedding his winter coat! The longer, thicker hair of his winter coat must come from his Labrador genes which makes him ideal for our northern climate! He lives outside but spends a lot of time inside with our family. He is now house trained as he hasn't made a mistake for many weeks. His sense of smell is highly developed and he has proven himself as an avid natural hunter.

The overall impression of Wolf is that he looks like a long legged 'Super Lab' that somehow turned out grey until you see his face! His face and ears are like that of a Weimaraner and his legs and are long like a Weimaraner but very powerful like the rest of his frame which is probably heavier that of a Weimaraner and probably influenced by his Lab genes. Wolf's disposition is purely delightful and I can't say whether is more one or the other. His father who is now three was a shy, slightly independent puppy who grew into a strong, loyal and brave defender of our home from bears that frequent our property. He plays with our two year old and is un-phased by the indiscretions of our child. While completely gentle with our children, birds and cats, he charges bears and chases them with unbelievable fearlessness and ferocity.

Wolf has the same puppy disposition of his father and will likely grow to become the same kind of adult dog. To grow to his potential, Wolf's character requires constant human companionship as does the nature of his mother and father. He is extremely intelligent and learns so fast that one forgets that he is a dog, and not a child. Click the photos to enlarge them.
