"The Pointer hunts because birds are the most important thing in its life; the Weimaraner hunts because hunting is the most wonderful activity that can be shared with the people it loves."
Penny, born in 2004, is a GBSD Weimaraner - Lab cross, very bright and easy to train. Penny has been both a sled dog and a house pet. Penny must weigh almost eighty pounds. She has a remarkably soft and gentle temperament, requires company and is very responsive an obedient. When in our home, Penny is quiet and seeks out company and close contact. Outside with the other dogs, Penny is very bold and instigates playing and romping and likes to play with the other puppies. She can switch instantly from being a quiet and demur inside girl to an outside mischief maker and leader in play and tag like games. Penny is very fit and very strong as you can see if you examine the contours of her shoulders. She has been trained and exercised as a sled dog and hunting companion. Penny's colour is grey. Her body has the configuration of a very strong lab with long legs. Her head very wide and she has a long Weimaraner nose. Her facial characteristics are all Weimaraner. Her grey colouring is quite unique and shines in the light. I suspect her longer nose makes here quite a tracker. Penny is truly a remarkable dog and a wonderful companion. Even our vet remarked at how unusual her character was when he met her to give her shots. While she likes to run and explore our property she never goes very far or stays away for very long. She grows a thick winter coat and which becomes sleek in the summer. She sheds in the spring but that can be controlled by daily brushing with a curry comb. Her favorite spot is on my couch an head on my lap. She often stands at the end of the couch with her fore legs positioned on the arm, waiting for and inviting attention as I pass. She is capable of resting her head quietly on my lap and remaining there unmoving for long moments an never tires of attention. She was raised around my son during his two's, three's and four's. Penny is a gentle and very sensitive dog and thrives only on gentle positive encouragement. Her puppies are varying shades of grey. The puppy on the left was one of Penny's two tone grey and tan puppies. ]Like other GBSD, Penny is protective of her master. It took five years for this trait to show itself. Not that it wasn't there but Penny was never given an opportunity or a need to show her character. One day she rushed to protect me, thinking another dog was being agressive. It took time for her to learn that Duke was just enjoying himself, pretending he was a tough guy, as he invited me to play his favouite game, "Take My Stick If You Can'. It all ended well. Penny stopped as soon as I told her to and Duke toned down he presentation but she proved that she was ready to defend me, even from Duke, a larger dog at 90 lbs. Notice
Descriptions and predictions of a puppy's temperament and physical characteristics when mature are based on our experience. When a puppy matures its actual physical and character traits may differ. Prices are subject to change without notice. Puppy values decline as puppies get older. Price reductions for unsold older puppies represent the value lost to an owner for not being able to raise and train a puppy from infancy. Price reductions for older puppies do not reflect a reduction in the quality of the puppies sold nor do lower values for older puppies reduce the value of the higher priced puppies sold for optimum adoption dates. In our experience, there is no disadvantage to adopting an older GBSD puppy. The Weimaraner breed is naturally able to bond with its master and family. In our experience purchasing an older puppy at a discount has little or no effect on one’s ability to train or socialize the dog. Purchasing an older puppy will not inhibit strength of the bond that will develop between you or your family and the puppy when treated with love, care and attention. Older puppies are often house trained and have had all their vaccination shots. |
