Skijoring with my GBSD

Published by admin under Puppy Activities

January 22, about 4pm I went skiing with some of my dogs. In the beginning of the winter, I can only use a few. Later, as they become better behaved, I can take six or more. Getting them to pull me on skis isn’t the problem however making them stop on command is the problem!  Here are some more still photos.   Video Link: http://www.blackbearfarm.com/dogs/video-090123-skijoring.php

Larry has fit in great. Kids love him and he has quickly made himself at home. Thanks again for everything.

Recently Jake lost his GBSD dog named Solo to to an accident. Jake and family live in Whitby Ontario.  His young son was heart broken. I explained to Jake that he needed another dog and that I too had lost a dog when I was five or six and my grief affected my school work and my relationship with my parents as I blamed them and the world for the loss. I offered Jake the choice of any dog on my website to protect his son and daughter from the grief of losing their dog. Jake chose Larry. Larry was Solo’s  brother from the same litter. Larry was my own house dog. Jake drove to Killarney to pick up Larry,   just before Christmas. Jake has since written to me explaining that Larry has helped heal their grief.  BBF.

Hey Brien!!!
Sorry it’s been awhile, but we have had quite the busy months! :) Amigo is doing great, we just weighed him at the vet the other day; 63 pounds and growing!! And he’s only 5 1/2 months!! He grew 10 pounds in 3 weeks, haha he is a giant! The vet says he’s going to be a big boy, maybe even hit to be 100 pounds! Anyway, Amigo is well, he just finished puppy kindergarten school and is in puppy graduate now, the star pupil of his class! we’ve started, or attempted to start jogging with him, but he’s still a puppy and gets a little eager! He loves his big walks, he saw his first deer the other week at a conservation park! Haha Amigo had a great Christmas, he got lots of toys and was helping unwrap christmas presents for our little neice! We had a scare with him though! he jumped up onto our 5 foot tall dinner table and ate a giant chocolate bar! we were so surprised he could even get up that high when he was so little! but the vet said it was completely fine he would just be “wired” all day haha. Now whenever we go to the vet they always ask Amigo “had any chocolate today?” Amigo, he’s a great dog, and everyone who sees him just HAS to stop and  say what a gorgeous dog he is! At first he looked like his mom, a pure lab look-a-like, and everyone would say what a nice lab he was, and we would have to give the old.. HE’S NOT A LAB speech. But now, he truly is starting to look just like his daddy, except he still has the little lab ears. There’s only 2 weimaraners in kingston that we’ve met and he looks just like them. Anyway Brien, thank-you for such a wonderful, loving dog we could not have picked a better puppy!! Enjoy the pictures and i hope you had a great holiday!

Hi Brien,
I thought I’d send you an update on Myrtle.  She has been doing great.  Lots of energy and very affectionate.  We love her and she has been a great addition to our family.  She especially enjoys going for long hikes in the woods near our house and digging holes at the beach.  She is very friendly and gets along with all the kids in the neighboorhood as well as the other dogs.  Thanks again for a great puppy.Myrtle is a GBSD

Note From BBF. Myrtle as a puppy is playing with Misha, a MacKenzie River Husky, in the lower photo. Myrtle suffered from a bout of HOD as a puppy and we delayed her shipping to Halifax until she recovered.
